Born from a wild idea in 2004, this ultra trail race challenges runners in the vast, rugged landscape of Big Bend. Spanning over 300,000 acres across national and state park lands, the course offers an unparalleled test of endurance in a remote environment. The isolation of the region provides a unique advantage, boasting the lowest light pollution of any park in the lower 48 states for breathtaking stargazing. Organized by Carroll Voss, Erik Stanley, and the dedicated team at Trail Roots, this annual event has become a staple for trail enthusiasts. Runners must be prepared for the scarcity of water and fuel in this demanding, beautiful desert wilderness. It remains a truly distinctive experience that celebrates the spirit of adventure in one of America's most iconic landscapes.
